Workshop Work Package 1, June 8th 2023

The location for the workshop was the former pumping station of consortium partner PWN, located near National Park Kennemerduinen in Overveen. Post doc Irma Arts had organized a full-day workshop for Work Package 1. For more content on her research, please refer to her blog.

The group of participants for this day had largely the same composition as the previous day at the dialogue training. This worked out well because it meant that the guidelines for conducting a dialogue were fresh in our memory. For inspiration, these guidelines were written out on a flip over sheet hanging on the wall.

After a warm welcome, Ine Dorresteijn, of the core team, took the floor and welcomed everyone. A number of current developments were discussed, such as the recent Webinar and a number of organizations that had shown interest in joining the consortium.

Irma Arts then took over the presentation and, after an introduction and explanation, gave the participants an assignment to work on together. In groups of three, supplemented by a facilitator from the core team, answers were sought to the question of how we see human-animal coexistence in the future. The outcomes were presented to the group.

Around noon, there was a lunch break.

Lunch was followed by a new assignment; creating a mind map around the topics: Wildlife, wildlife management and coexistence. The outcomes will support the basis for the research agenda being formulated in WP 1 and where presented to the group.

The day ended and soon participants dispersed back towards the train on their way home.

We look back on a successful first workshop day in which we took a step forward in giving direction to the project and mapping the wildlife management of the Netherlands.

The next blog will be a report on the workshop of Work Package 2.
